Stern Show Summer Ratings Victories And Other Ratings Info Can Be Found Here. New Information for Philly, Wash.DC, Cleveland, New Orleans, El Paso & Myrtle Beach Has Been Added Since 12/6/95.
New York - Radio Market #1
92.3 WXRK FM - Classic Rock
Howard's show remained on top with a 7.0 ratings in the 12+ demographic. Slipping from a 7.7 in the Spring '95 ratings but enough to stay ahead of 1010 WINS AM news radio.
Los Angeles - Radio Market #2
97.1 KLSX FM - Real Radio - Young Talk
With the similarity between KLSX and KLAX's call letters causing confusion for some time, it was nice to see that Howard's show once again took the #1 spot in the mornings with a 5.4 share, 12+.
Philadelphia - Radio Market #5
94.1WYSP FM - Philly's Rock Station
In the 12+ demographic, the Stern show's ratings for the Summer book were enough to put the show in 2nd place with a 9.8 share. In first place was All News KYW-AM with a 12.5 share, which possibly carried such high numbers due to the OJ trial. But with men, the numbers are huge for Howard's show. With men 25-54, Howard has a 19.3 share and with men 18-34, he got a 29.8 share. In radio-speak, almost 1 in 3 men, 18-34, with radios, are listening to the Stern show.
Dallas - Radio Market #7
97.1 KEGL FM - The Eagle - Pure Rock
Since signing on in September of 1992, 97.1 KEGL FM has hung in there for the good fight. Well, after three years, Howard is #1 and kicking Kid Kradock's ass up and down the radio dial. Amazingly, Howard's show dethroned at least 3 country music morning shows including Infinity's KVIL FM in a city which wasn't likely to embrace a New York City Jew and his black female side-kick as their favorite morning radio show. Howard's male demographics are very strong in Dallas. In the 18-34 male demographic, he's got an 18 share of the audience. That's impressive.
Washington, DC. - Radio Market #8
106.7 WJFK FM - Talk Radio
After all these years, and with a bad transmitter location, Howard is finally getting the respect and ratings his show deserves. In the last full ratings book, Howard's show placed 2nd with a 6.7 share, just 1/10 of a point behing the Urban music station in the 12+ demo. With all people age 18-24, the show has a 12.2 share.
Cleveland - Radio Market #22
98.5 WNCX FM - Classic Rock
Having won in Cleveland back in 1994, the Stern show is still top rated. In the 12+ demo, the show finished 2nd with a 9.9 share. In men 18+, the show finished first with a 15.2 share and with persons 25-34, the show had a 21 share. The Stern show swaps pole positions with WMJI's, John Lannigan often. A fact due to Lannigan's larger female audience.
New Orleans - Radio Market #38
97.1 WEZB FM - New Rock
The Stern show finished in first place with men 25-54 with a11.2 share and is within striking distance of the number one spot in the 12+ demo.
Rochester - Radio Market #44
95.1 WNVE FM -The Nerve - New Rock
Rochester is the toughest market for the Stern show because of WCMF's Brother Wease, who's been there for years and is a local favorite. He's been stealing from Howard for years and has his audience convinced he's the innovator and that Howard's the thief. Howard's got a 6.6 that puts him in 5th, well behind Wease's 13.2 share.

El Paso - Radio Market #?
KROD

Myrtle Beach - Radio Market #?
104.1 WAYV FM - Classic Rock
The show has finished first here before but is currently in 3rd with a 6.7 share. Tom Joiner from Chicago on the Urban station is in first place.
DEFINITIONS:
(12+) = All listeners, male and female, over the age of 12. The 12+ audience is the largest due to the fact that it contains all the other demographics combined.
(Demographics) = Characteristics of a population. (In radio)> A specific group of people. (Example) Men 18-54, Women 25-54, etc...
(Rating Point) = In TV a rating point is worth approximately 964,000 viewers nationally. A rating point's value in radio is usually less as aposed to TV's and increases and decreases based on a cities or regions listening or viewing population. If a TV show gets a 25.5 rating nationally than approx. 24 million people watched the program. Remember, point values vary from city to city and from TV to radio. If Howard gets a 7.0 in NY, it doesn't mean 6 million listeners, it's more like 1.2 to 1.5 million listeners at any given time.
(Share) = A percentage of the possible listening audience. (Example) If Howard's got an 18 share of men in Dallas, that means 18% of all men in the listening area with their radios on, are listening to Howard and KEGL. Better said, (1) in (5.5) men who listen to the radio in the morning in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area are Stern fans.
