Stern Re-Signs For Five And Forms
New Partnership With Infinity!
The Howard Stern Radio Network Becomes A Reality!
This web site learned early in March that Howard had signed a deal
with Infinity that extended his current contract for another five years
and formed a new partnership to start the Howard Stern Radio Network.
This brought to an end the speculation that Howard would be leaving
radio due to his disenchantment with the industry and the FCC. Howard's
agent, Don Buchwald, told Radio & Records, "Not
only will Howard not leave radio in the foreseeable future but an agreement
has been reached, signed and delivered between Howard and Infinity to continue
in the radio business for an extended period of time."
Since signing Howard back in 1985, Mel Karmazin and Infinity have always
backed him through very difficult situations. Their reward is that they
get to keep him while he's red hot and has everyone's attention in different
forms of media. "Howard has a credibility
no one else has. Howard makes you a ton of money. Every single project
he's been involved in has made a ton of money,"
Mel Karmazin said about Howard.
Under the deal, the following can be expected:
- Howard gets final approval on all programming
on the network.
- The development of on-air talent in-line with
the show's humor.
- Massive growth with a possible addition of 20+
new stations soon.
- The ultimate goal of 200 stations total around
the country.
- Stern Show involvement in other parts of the
day.
- Growth in small and medium markets to flourish.
- The addition of 2 new stations within weeks.
As for what Howard invisons about his soon-to-be radio network, he
told the radio trade magazine, FMQB, about his intentions with the HSRN.
"I'm also talking about supplying a radio
station with the overall sound, not just a specific program. I'm talking
about production, promos... everything. ...the unique thing would be that
it would truly be a Howard Stern station. It would be people and a sound
that I could endorse, a sound I could really get behind." Howard Stern
